1951 Ford F-1 - Ol' Red

This is Lucille's replacement, another 1951 Ford F-1 pickup truck with a five star cab that I've affectionately named "Ol' Red". When I found her she had a new bed, fresh paint, a Ford 390cu.in. V8, C6 Transmission, B&M Shifter, and wooden bed slats. She looked decent on the outside but she drove like an old dump truck. It was time to transform her into an awesome street rod cruiser with a complete rebuild.

The Transformation

We removed the FE 390 engine and the C6 transmission and installed a mustang II style IFS suspension system. The truck was rewired (from front to rear) and now features rack and pinion steering, front coil suspension, power disc brakes, a screamin' sbc 350 engine with a turbo 350 transmission, dolphin gauges, aluminum radiator, spal cooling fan wiring, etc... Scroll down for the completed rebuild.

I bought a small block 350 V8 that came out of a municipal truck with only 53,000 original miles. She was a bit rough from sitting dormant but I tore her down and cleaned her up. Freshened her up with a new Edelbrock intake manifold, carburetor, exhaust manifolds, aluminum valve covers, new water pump, steering pump, HEI distributor, etc... After five months of work, the engine and drive line were installed and I just had to finish the rest of the project.

She's Done!

It took five months of around the clock work and some hard earned cash but Ol' Red is finally done. There's always something more to do when you have a Hot Rod but we've completed what we originally set out to do. She starts, runs, stops, and moves forward and reverse. All the lights work, all the gauges work, and she looks great.

Here are some glamour shots of the old girl in all of her glory.
